Eric Thorn, M.D.
Dr. Eric Thorn received his Bachelor’s Degree Summa Cum Laude from Duke University in 1996. He attended medical school at the University of Maryland School of Medicine.. He was elected to Alpha Omega Alpha in his Junior year and graduated in 2001 at the top of his class, receiving both the Bader Scholarship Award for Academic Achievement and the Theodore Woodward Prize in Internal Medicine. Dr. Thorn went on to complete his Internal Medicine Residency at Johns Hopkins Hospital. In 2004, he returned to the University of Maryland for fellowship training in Cardiology.
During his Cardiology Fellowship, Dr. Thorn received training in a wide range of non-invasive cardiac imaging procedures. In addition to being board certified in Internal Medicine and Cardiology, Dr. Thorn is also a board certified practitioner of Nuclear Cardiology. As part of his fellowship at the University of Maryland, Dr. Thorn was trained to perform and interpret cardiac CT scans. Upon completing his cardiology fellowship in 2007, Dr. Thorn received additional training in cardiovascular MRI at the National Institutes of Health.
After completing training, Dr. Thorn stayed on at the University of Maryland as an Assistant Professor from 2007 until 2009. As a faculty member, Dr. Thorn balanced his activities between patient care, teaching, and clinical research.. However, as a member of Virginia Cardiovascular Associates, he is looking forward to devoting more of his time to patient care.
When he is not working, Dr. Thorn most enjoys spending time with his wife and son. He and his family have recently moved to Northern Virginia. Dr. Thorn also enjoys reading, computers, and sports, especially watching Duke Basketball.
